Parenthood changes everything — including your sense of identity.

We prepare for parenthood by setting up nurseries, researching the best products, or reading about tips and tricks with toddlers, but there isn’t much focus on preparing for the new emotional register that you’ll develop, nor is there attention given about how becoming a parent will change your relationships. When a child enters the equation, our understanding of ourselves, the world around us, and the way we know how to go about tackling things is suddenly turned upside down. Our lives become about them.

Maybe you’re experiencing:

  • A parenting journey that looks different from how you envisioned

  • Struggling to find yourself amidst raising little humans

  • Doubt about your ability to be a “good” parent

  • Feeling alone, lost, or overwhelmed by parenthood

  • Sudden life-altering events or changes in family dynamics

  • Tension or distance in your relationship with your partner and/or children

We can help you connect back to yourself and parent from a place of authenticity and confidence.

Therapy for new and expecting parents.

Whether you are a first-time parent or not, a new baby can stir up a lot of feelings for both partners at any point in this new stage of life. Often times, these feelings are triggered by hurt and pain from past experiences in family and relationship dynamics as you continue to build a family of your own. Together, we will work through the challenges you are facing so you can fully step into this new phase of life without the stories and patterns of the past influencing the profound and pivotal experience of parenthood.

  • We believe that strong successful families start with whole and healed parents that have a village behind them. We are that village.

Our therapists have experience working with families and children of all ages in a variety of settings including, in-home, schools, and outpatient clinics. We draw from all areas of our experience to achieve the goal of keeping families functioning at their best— beginning with the parents.

In our work together, we will develop an understanding of each parent’s individual background and relate it to current family dynamics in order to heal from the past and break unwanted generational patterns of behavior. Our work with parents helps families build a stronger bond amongst one another.

As part of our Parent Coaching programming, we teach parents new skills and create individualized parenting solutions that are aligned with our client’s desired approaches to raising their children and truly match to their family’s dynamics.

Therapy can help parents:

  • Rediscover your sense of self

  • Heal from past experiences of pain and hurt that occurred in your own upbringing

  • Break generational patterns in behavior related to parenting and family dynamics

  • Achieve effective co-parenting

  • Increase closeness and sense of belonging in your family dynamic

FAQS

Common questions about therapy for parents

  • While we have significant training and experience working with families, we choose to use our expertise to help parents. We believe that parents are the biggest influence on the well-being and functioning of their children.

For this reason, we view the work that we do with parents as a way to directly and effectively help families achieve their goals.

  • Due to our work being virtually-based, we do not provide therapy to children at this time.

  • Our goal is to help empower parents to take what they learn in our work together and implement it on their own. However, sometimes we all need a little help putting new skills into action. For this reason, it is perfectly acceptable to have your children join in for a session or two as long as it means we are practicing new skills together.

If this is something you would like to do, please discuss this further with your therapist in advance of your appointment.

  • We believe that effective parenting and parent-child relationships require parents to consistently work together using aligned approaches in order to positively support their children’s growth.

For this reason, we believe it is best for both parents to participate in sessions together— although they do not have to be in the same room during our meetings.

While we respect and understand that sometimes there can be history between parents that make joint sessions difficult, we are sure to always focus our work together on the greater good of the children.

If joint sessions with both parents are not an option, we can work as a team with individual parents and other significant members in the child’s life.
